There’s a bit of magic in the air as night falls over Disney’s Hollywood Studios, movie magic. Throughout the evening, Guests find the World-famous Chinese theatre transformed from a movie palace into some of the best, most well-loved Disney Hollywood moments.

Projected lighting of Klieg light Skytrackers illuminates the building as we hear an echoing supernatural version of “Hooray for Hollywood” fill the air. The song travels around the space along with the distinct sound of a film projector sputtering to life. Suddenly, imagery of famous posters and characters appears upon the distinct Chinese architecture. Shadows and silhouettes appear as if elements of the film inside are escaping.

Then, the music changes to a particular film score or beloved song, as the theater and surrounding buildings magically transform into an iconic location or scene from the film, as if the movie bursts forth from the heart of the theater.

The building transforms from the theatre into the smoky rooftops of London. Practical effects such as fog help enhance the moment.

The music swells into the Sherman Brothers’ “Step In Time” as chimney sweeps pop out of chimneys and dance across the rooftops in time with the song. Mary Poppins, Jane, Michael, and Burt are seen as they fly into the scene, adding their own magic. As the song comes to an end, the chimney sweeps dive back into the chimneys, and the theater is restored to its original projected look. Other potential Movie Moments include:

• The theatre transforms into 1930s Los Angeles as the Rocketeer is seen flying through the Art Deco city.

• The theatre into the streets of New York City at the turn of the century as Newsies “Seize the Day”.

• The theatre becomes the neon “Grid” as Kevin Flynn races against the Master Control Program on light cycles.

Guests never know when the next Movie Magic moment will take place or what film they’ll be transported to. Additional effects, such as lighting and surround sound, help create a fully immersive experience for Guests in front of the Chinese Theater.
