CREATURE FEATURE HALLOWEEN SPECIAL

Welcome, Fright Fans, to the Creature Feature Halloween Show.

During Saturday afternoons, Creature Feature was a staple of programming that served audiences a feast of thrills, chills, screams, and blood-curdling fun. Horror Hosts Merlin “Cad” Aver and Trixie Treat were at the helm of the show.

However, their last Halloween special never aired. In 1975, Halloween festivities fell on a Friday evening, and plans were made for an all-out extravaganza set for the following year - Saturday, October 31, 1976. Unfortunately, nobody looked at a calendar, and the holiday skipped a day because of the leap year, falling on Sunday, which was the worst day for Halloween and a Halloween special. Consequently, the special never aired and was presumed lost forever.

The special has been recently unearthed, along with the hosted fright feature “They’re Coming to Get You.” So, 44 years later, the special has been brought back from the dead in honor of this Saturday, October 31st, 2020 - Halloween. Sit back, lock your doors, and enjoy… CREATURE FEATURE.

This short film is a tribute to those fantastical Saturdays of my youth. It was when weekend afternoons were spent consuming screenings of the classics and the not-so-classics. The grainy black-and-white televised terrors where Dr. Paul Bearer provided monsters and mirth to kids of all ages.

Michael collaborated with the management of the Silver Moon Drive-in to write, direct, and design an immersive evening of fun and frights. For the Halloween holiday, the Drive-in scheduled several double showings of classic and contemporary horror films under the name “How At The Moon”. The short film was presented in two parts, screening before and after the Hollywood horrors. To add to the experience, a series of fun rules for drive-in etiquette and enticing invitations to visit the concessions stand were produced. At the end of the second part, the drive-in screen would freeze on a ghoulish image of a bright full moon, and actors dressed as a horde of the undead, would navigate through the parked cars to provide a genuine scare for the audience
